School Incursions
Suara Indonesia Dance has conducted workshops in hundreds of schools and thousands of students across Australia and around the world for almost 20 years. We tour across Australia annually and regularly return to schools who have loved hosting our incursions.
We offer three workshops. All focus on engaging and energising students, and encouraging interaction in a warm and supportive environment. Our school workshops link to key Learning Areas of the Australian Curriculum and we provide teachers resources to help you enrich your students’ learning with related information and class activities.
Workshops are available as Focus-Workshops, One-off performance-workshops (45mins - 1 hour) or all-day workshops (3 x 50mins sessions) in the different Stage groups, culminating in a performance with the students at an end of the day assembly.*

The performers take participants on a spectacular and highly-engaging cultural journey around Indonesia. Dances from Sumatra, Bali and East & West Java are included. The sessions consist of a 25mins performance of dances from across the diverse archipelago, followed by a 35min interactive workshop, involving all students. Students learn movements from RATOH DUEK (sitting body percussion dance from Aceh) and RANDAI (‘the big pants’ dance from West Sumatra), and have the opportunity to shine through their own performance.

Focus workshops are for small size classes and/or elective Indonesian language/Drama/Music classes who would like to focus on an interactive workshop, rather than a show.RANDAI and RATOH DUEK dances are taught in more detail, for a maximum of 40 students. We can also customise a workshop depending on your school needs.
